Spike Jonze does it again. Well done.

A Love Story in an Absolute World

Do or Do not, There is No Try.

So many videos but no standard for playing them

In the day to day hum-drum of business, I am constantly asking the myself the question “How will I integrate a video player, how will I host and deliver content and should I start from scratch or find a pre-made solution?”. In the past I have taken the more difficult route of creating a custom video player that has been frankensteined together over the last 2 years. This allows me to easily customize the look and feel as needed which is a plus. It has however resulted in a lower quality video player that isn’t up to par with expectations. I also have never had the opportunity to work with a CDN for hosting, management and delivery of the video content. I have always either hosted the content myself (HTTP) or used a service like FMS (RTMP).

Where Oh Where Can My Video Player Be

Stumbled upon (no, not the social network) this awesome website yesterday: The Art of the Title Sequence

This site is proving to be very inspiring to me because it allows me to see how people generate their ideas. It allows me to move frame-by-frame through each sequence and really look at and try to deconstruct how some of the sequences are created. I have started to find a new passion that involves motion graphics and I’m loving every step down the path. I’ll be posting some of my motion stuff over the next few weeks.

Dub FX 18/04/2009 ‘Made’

Again, life throws a left hook into the jaw of reality, keeping it on a straight path, not letting it sway left or right. Again and again and again. Just damn.

Second Smoke Test from Lee Regan on Vimeo.

This is my first attempt at After Effects. This is a test shot for a music video I am helping produce. This scene involves the main characters leg catching on fire and smoking. Was an interesting process. The most difficult part was getting the motion tracking correct for not only the emitter that produces the smoke but also for how the smoke sets itself in the scene.

I finished part of my Thursday daily design. My goal on Thursdays is to paint something. This can be a digital or real painting as long as it lasts at least an hour. I have been asked by a family friend to create a painting for his house. This is the result. Started at about 9:00pm on Wednesday January 13th, 2010 and stopped at 3:34am on Thursday January 14th, 2010. This is just the start, the under painting for shadows and texture. I will be going back over it in the next couple of days and really bringing out the whites. This was the first painting I have done in almost 4 years and it made me extremely happy to create it. There is nothing like dancing in your kitchen at 3 in the morning because you realize you can still accomplish things. Leave me some comments, thanks!

First Daily Design Post

With 2010 right around the corner, Smashing Magazine has once again let loose with a great creative challenge. The challenge is to design something daily and show it to the world. Perfect. I accept the challenge! And you all should to!

I love David Lanham’s work. He is a source of inspiration for me when my mind slows to a crawl and the creativity just doesn’t flow freely. He recently put out this video showing time lapse of how he works. He creates some really stunning vegetables and it is great to see how other artists work. I hope you enjoy.
